Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing stops and starts repeatedly. It occurs when the throat muscles relax or the brain fails to send appropriate signals to the muscles that control breathing.
Amatis is developing a new product for sleep apnea. With the new product, the company aims to diagnose patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). The new product has been developed for telehealth systems and will make use of ECG signals obtained from the Holt recorder within its analysis.
From the ECG signals, the most important signals come from the QRS complex. The QRS complex causes the ventricles to contract so that blood is expelled from the heart muscle. The R-peak is the point of greatest amplitude in the ECG signal.
When extracting the heartbeats, these peaks are marked on the ECG.
Within our new application, our team extracts the time, frequency and geometric domain characteristics of the RR intervals extracted from the ECG signal. The rapid and accurate diagnosis of OSAS from the ECG signal ensures that the above-mentioned complaints of patients can be treated in a short time. Because any form of delay ensures further progression of the disease, a rapid diagnosis is desirable. With this new application, Amatis makes it possible for people to return to a normal life and not be tied to long diagnostic processes.
